This is an effort to question and become familiar with the mechanics of deconstruction and reconstruction, both literally and figuratively. The structure itself functions as a metaphor for pain, abuse, systemic oppression, and the like.

This experiment uncovers tools for effectively deconstructing/reconstructing both the world’s external societal structures and our own internal mental frameworks. We all carry with us our own ever-growing, perpetually maze-like structures, and are implicated in the endurance of these structures, as well as their destruction and reconstruction.

How can we break free from and reimagine something that we have grown so accustomed to? Something that has effectively become an extension of our own body? The structure's deconstruction and reconstruction is both a catalyst for imagining our way out of larger societal structures, as well as a reflection on passivity as perpetuation.

Artist Statement

Ava
Born and raised in Los Angeles, Ava Lightwood is a multimedia performance artist working primarily with film, photography, music, and found material. The core of her artistic practice transmutes experience and identity via performance, often viewed through a surrealist lens as a way to engage with difficult, layered subjects. As an Afro-Dominican, disabled, survivor of abuse, her life experience feeds directly into her artistic practice. Ritual and spirit are the foundation in which she approaches each artistic endeavour, creating deep opportunities for spiritual transformation personally, and hopefully collectively.

Website: nutriino.com

Qwenga
Qwenga is a Los Angeles–born performance and visual artist whose work lives at the intersection of movement, concept, and transformation. Drawing from a foundation in krump dance and early experiences in expressive mime, their practice fuses movement direction, visual arts, and technology into immersive, multisensory worlds. Named one of Dance Magazine’s “25 to Watch,” they have directed movement for artists such as Bad Bunny, Travis Scott, Labrinth, and Gucci, creating works that are both viscerally physical and conceptually charged. Through installations, film, and live performance, Qwenga’s art invites audiences to reflect, feel, and step into spaces where the boundaries between artist and observer dissolve.

Entrance

To access VENIA Studio, please use the Courtyard entrance inside One Santa Fe.

Parking

Metered parking is available in the One Santa Fe Lot, and street parking available on Santa Fe Ave. and the surrounding neighborhood.
